Backup Error, Access is Denied – good for all versions, including sql 2014

Error Message:

Msg 3201, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot open backup device ‘C:\backup\MyDB.Bak’. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.).
Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.



Your SQL Server Account does not have permissions to write a backup file in the specified location.


1- Check your SQL Server user account by opening SQL Server Configuration Manager


2-Check the folder security permissions where you intend to write your backup, the SQL Server service user needs to have write privileges

3- Try to run the backup again
