SQL Server script: Top Consumers

Below a list of scripts that you can use to get the top consuming stored procedures. They all use DMVs which gather statistics on stored procedure usage, the DMV´s contents are historic from last SQL Server startup. So please make sure that SQL Server has being running for a while, so the data queries is good enough that it will represent a good sample. This means that if SQL Server was just started you will see very little information and the result of the query can be misleading. We will be organizing the queries by logical writes, physical reads, logical reads, cpu and duration.

 

TOP Stored procedures by Logical Writes

SELECT TOP(25) p.name AS [SP Name], qs.total_logical_writes AS [TotalLogicalWrites],
qs.total_logical_writes/qs.execution_count AS [AvgLogicalWrites], qs.execution_count,
ISNULL(qs.execution_count/DATEDIFF(Second, qs.cached_time, GETDATE()), 0) AS [Calls/Second],
qs.total_elapsed_time, qs.total_elapsed_time/qs.execution_count AS [avg_elapsed_time],
qs.cached_time
FROM sys.procedures AS p WITH (NOLOCK)
INNER JOIN sys.dm_exec_procedure_stats AS qs WITH (NOLOCK)

TOP Stored procedures by Physical Reads
